Svetislav Pesic took part in a press conference to talk about the selection of Serbian and, of course, his decision to leave the team Milos Theodosic.

Pesic was completely direct, not only with the journalists, but also with the former captain of the national team:I told him directly that I could not, after everything I saw in training, offer him the status and the place he had so far in the national team.. I’m focusing on players who I think can give more right now“.

However, Pesic did not hide his annoyance at the leak of his decision:Anyone dedicated to the sport knows that tough decisions have to be made, not just when it comes to selection. These decisions are different in the clubs and in the national team. I see that certain decisions have provoked strong reactions, particularly in the case of Milos Teodosic. What happened to me for the first time was that I didn’t even have time to inform the team and all the portals had already published the news that Teodosic had been delisted. You have been misinformed. After that, my colleagues, with whom I have contact, called me, but I did not want to answer anyone, I wanted to keep peace in the selection. Our job is the team, the team was informed a little later, but everyone knows what I was thinking when I made this decision“.

Pesic also admitted that it was not an easy decision, considering what Teodosic had given the team over the years:We had a good conversation with him. The decision is mine, it’s not easy, not only because he’s been part of the national team for many years, but it’s not easy for any player. You may have been a little surprised, but it’s part and parcel of the sport. Of course, we talked about it a lot, we know that he is the captain and a great coach, a basketball player, but we thought that he would stay in the team as a reserve player. He was never a bench player and I told him that I had better players than him for those positions.. Like I said, the team is not made up of the best 12, but the 12 that work best together. He thanked me, just like I thanked him for the way he accepted the news“.

After this change, Nemanja Bjelica and Vladimir Lucic will be the captains of the Serbian team, while Teodosic He’s already been kicked off the team.
