The house demont Zaragoza ended its first day of work this Monday, under the orders of Martin Schillerduring a session which took place in the Príncipe Felipe pavilion and which had significant absences. It was the starting signal for the pre-season, a preparation phase that will consist of six weeks before the Aragonese’s official debut in the Endesa League.whose first match is scheduled for September 29, in front of the Obradoiro, in Santiago de Compostela.
The new coach, Martin Schiller, still does not have all the players in this first week of training. In this direction, Dino Radoncic, Rihards Lomazs and Borisa Simanic are focused with the Montenegro, Lithuania and Serbia squads respectively; Zaragoza’s latest acquisition Frankie Ferrari will join the team in the coming days; and, in addition, there are still two new contracts to be finalized, to which respond a fifth center and an outside player.
Schiller, in any case, will have a deeply renovated block compared to the previous year. Casademont is now changing its face, with a drastic change in its workforce, because it has just completed a suspenseful season, to forget, victim of his indolence, his inconsistency and his manifest irregularity in most of his acts. Permanence was the only good news after a tense run, major mistakes – on and off the track – which left the team prone to failure until the last moment of the season.
In order to restore his damaged prestige, Casademont has signed a young coach (40 years old), with little experience, although endowed with great technical skills and a deep knowledge of the game. In addition, he is committed to a dynamic basketball, attractive to the spectator, and also corresponds to the training profile pursued by the entity.
Of the team that started last year, only Dino Radoncic, Javi García, Santi Yusta and Triggvy Hlinason continue; while Deon Thompson, Rodrigo San Miguel, Stan Okoye, Jaime Fernández, Aleix Font, Hans Vanwijn, Omar Cook and Javier Justiz left the team. And to design the new sports project, the club has preferably sourced players without any experience in the Endesa League: Marcel Ponitka (Frankfurt Skyliners), Rihards Lomazs (Gottingen), Borisa Simanic (KK Mega Basket) and Justinian Jessup (Illawarra Hawks) will be debuting this season in domestic competition; while Christian Mekowulu’s Spanish experience is reduced to just eight games.
The Nigerian joined Casademont in the home stretch of the season, in a situation of maximum risk, and sent very positive signals in his game. He renewed with Zaragoza for one season. The same thing happened with Frankie Ferrari, who will continue in the Aragonese team after playing the last seven games of last season. The guard, however, knew the national championship, having already played for Manresa, Gran Canaria and Unicaja de Málaga.
Four local players and Álex Urtasun
Besides the members of the first team, the coach of Casademont Zaragoza, Martin Schiller, He currently has four career reinforcements and veteran Álex Urtasun, who will work under him until the team adds more troops. as the pre-season progresses. In the lower categories, Aday Mara, Lucas Langarita, Pavle Stosic and Gonzalo Rodríguez have joined, four of the most beloved pieces from the club’s youth academy.
In reality, Mara and Langarita, both 17, were runners-up with Spain’s Under-17 side, last July, also playing a very important role in the tournament; Stosic is an international with the Serbia under-18 team; and Gonzalo Rodríguez, also 18, took part in the Adidas Next Generation in April. The base will work with the Casademont first team until Frankie Ferrari arrives. Whereas, Álex Urtasun is currently without a team. At 38, he has 294 official matches in the highest Spanish competition.
From now on, the Casademont will face two weeks of work in Zaragoza, in the Príncipe Felipe pavilion, before attending in the first friendly match of the pre-season, which will take place on August 27, in Ejea de los Caballeros, against Fuenlabrada. Later, a preparation match awaits them in Calatayud, against Granada, on September 3;#and the team will travel to Benasque 24 hours later, where they will stay until the 7th.
After leaving the Pyrenean city, Casademont will participate on September 10 in the Pepe Lanzuela Memorial, a tournament to be held in Teruel and where he will face Valencia Basket. The Aragonese team will be presented to its public on September 17, in the Príncipe Felipe pavilion, against the French Asvel Villeurbanne –team participating in the Euroleague–; and on the 21st they will play a final warm-up match against Granada, now in a Nasrid city.
